4/30/2023 0 Comments Zoom call horror movie![]() pandemic movie so beautifully tapped into early COVID-19 anxieties without making a movie about COVID-19. I'm sure that my really low expectations contributed to me enjoying this movie, but regardless, the general consensus around the internet (from what I could gather) is that its a pretty good "found-footage-esque" one, with some really inventive ways of using the media (an online call/meeting) and integrating it into the scary parts. Host is about a group of six friends who decide to hire a medium over a Zoom call during their quarantine, which in turn unleashes evil spirits into their homes. Whether you call it in-screen horror, second screen. Its only 50 minutes long, so it doesn't overstays its welcome, and all the tense moments and jumpscares are very well made, and I also didn't feel that any scene was over the top, like some in Unfriended. I expected Host to be sort of the same thing, and I was actually very surprised with how well this movie is put together. I watched Unfriended (2015) and thought that while it was pretty original for the time it released, it was. Initially I didn't expect to be very entertained. Its premise is a very simple one: A few friends gather in a Zoom meeting to perform a seance. It released last year and from what I could find online, the quarantine and covid were its main inspirations. ![]() I was really bored tonight and was looking for something to watch on Netflix when I bumped into this movie called "Host". ![]()
